Thousands forced to evacuate
At least 11,700 families and 48,198 individuals in Isabela and Aurora were forced to evacuate while four people have been reported missing and feared dead in the wake of floods caused by three days of heavy rains in Northern and Central Luzon, officials said Friday.
Reports from Regional Disaster Coordinating (RDCC) said that some 7,656 families or 41,190 people in 31 villages in Isabela were forcibly evacuated Thursday due to rampaging flashfloods.
Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian, Cagayan Valley police director and concurrent RDCC-2 chairman, said the evacuated families are from from 31 villages in the towns of Ilagan, Benito Soliven, San Mateo, and Delfin.
Some residents of Albano town in Isabela were evacuated to various evacuation centers and or higher grounds.
Friday, there were reports that 24 families or 5,753 people were evacuated to the Carbonel Funeral Homes and Isabela National High School, which are serving as evacuation centers.
The Office of Civil Defense in Isabela reported that persons from Santa Maria and one from Ilagan were reported missing and are feared dead after they carried away by strong current in the Ilanga River on Wednesday.
In Central Luzon, at least 30 barangays in Aurora are isolated as a bridge in Minanga was rendered impassable due to rampaging floods, displacing an estimated 4,044 families or 23,011 people.
Aurora Governor Bella Castillo said the PDCC ordered the forced evacuation of affected residents.
In Casiguran, a third class town with a population of 22,403 people from 4,366 households, at least 24 villages were affected by the floods and five-year-old Enrique Caiclian was also reported missing since Wednesday and is feared dead.
