Actor John Lloyd Cruz has reiterated that actress Ruffa Gutierrez did not cause his breakup with non-showbiz girlfriend, Liz Uy.
 
“Magkaibigan lang kami (ni Ruffa),” he said on “The Buzz,” Sunday, June 21.
 
The rumors linking him to Ruffa swelled a couple of weeks back after she was reported to have had a tiff with her mother, Annabelle Rama because Annabelle allegedly disapproved of John Lloyd courting Ruffa.     
 
Prior to this, media reported that John Lloyd had broken up with Liz.   
 
“Walang kinalaman si Ruffa or (even) Sarah (Geronimo)…(yung breakup ay) isang bagay na di mo naman ginugusto (kasi) mahirap yun,” he maintained.
 
“Imagine saying goodbye to the most beautiful, to the most, I’d say influential,.. There are so many words to describe her (Liz), to describe what we had. Pero imagine saying goodbye to all those things… I think ang naramdaman ko was beyond painful.”
 
He said that people link him to Ruffa because “isang topic (ito) na masarap pagusapan (a) nageenjoy (ang marami) na pagusapan ito.”
 
Rama is said to have inadvertently fuelled the rumors by saying, “John Lloyd, mapakalalake ka, okay! Kung in love ka sa anak ko, umamin ka in public!”
 
John Lloyd acknowledged: “When I’m being asked, ‘May pagasa ba, do you think in the future you’d be together?’  I would always say, ‘When love happens to a person, wala ka nang choice… wala na yan sa kamay mo. Mag-gi-give in ka na lang. Wala ka ng magagawa.”
 
He appealed to people to stop linking him to Ruffa especially because “kagagaling ko lang sa isang relationship at siya [Ruffa], galing sa isang hiwalayan. Di ba, parang hot item? Pero huwag naman at our own expense, kasi may mga pangalan na nagsa-suffer. May mga relationship na nagsa-suffer.”
 
However, John Lloyd does not deny that it is not hard to like Ruffa, who is nine years his senior.
 
“Ruffa is very intelligent (and) ‘pag naka-heels siya, she’s oddly tall,” he quipped. “I’ve no reason at all not to like her.”
 
Anticipating more talks, he volunteered information regarding his trip to Los Angeles, California which will be simultaneous to Ruffa’s City of Angels trip.
 
“Ang talagang kikitain ko ay yung mga kaibigan ko. Pero syempre, meron kaming medyo the same group of friends in L.A,” he said. “Pero may sarili siyang lakad dun at parang may party siya para sa Roof A Child Foundation.”
 
 He said that the issue has gone far enough and that it’s time to give it a rest.
