Through a Lens, Clearly

More from Our Readers

I recently discovered a free and easy-to-use photo editor that would be great to share with the readers.

From the Inbox (20)

Among the many images this column has been receiving are pictures of people having fun.

Depending on how we use them, memory cards can have a shorter or longer lifespan. I am listing just a couple of points from the guidelines given by Barrie Smith in an article posted on www.digitalphotographyschool.com.

From the Inbox (17)

The column today is an assortment of image themes from new and old contributors.

Yellow Tributes (2)

More readers sent in their tributes to Tita Cory after last week’s feature.

Reader’s Tribute to Cory

The images submitted by half a dozen readers taken during the wake and funeral march of our beloved President Cory Aquino take center stage in our column today.

From the Inbox (12)

In a somewhat rare display of chance, four readers in the past two weeks sent in pictures of insects among others that they had taken. They start off our features for today.

From the Inbox (10)

After a couple of month’s tribute to our parents, this column is back to featuring the regular photo submissions of our readers.

Salamat, Tatay

Today marks the last day of this column’s special feature on our readers’ tributes to their fathers.

Happy Father's Day

This is really an advanced greeting since Father’s Day is still five days away. For those who didn’t make it to this issue, this column will continue with this theme until June 30.

Make fun posters on the web

Readers may want to look at a couple of sites that offer online editing for motivational posters. These are posters that leaders use to push vision, mission, values, etc., among members of an office or organization.

Digitally Abstacted Photography

Currently featured at the Sining Kamalig gallery on the 4th floor of Gateway Mall in Cubao is Pixel Perfect – The Exhibition. On display are the eight works comprised of 45 digitally abstracted photographs in Henry Bateman’s third book of photography, Pixel Perfect.

Artsy CT Scans

Just before Holy Week, I found an unusual and very amusing website that I thought of sharing with the readers today.

From the Inbox (9)

More than a few new readers have e-mailed me thinking that this column’s name is From the Inbox.

From the Inbox (8)

We start today’s column with some words of advice for our reader-contributors. One, please send images with sizes between 100 kb and 500 kb, meaning not too small (5-30 kb) nor too big (2-5 mb).

From the Inbox (7)

We start this column with a reminder that the World Pinhole Photography Day on April 26, 2009 is less than a month away. Visit pinhole.org. for details on how to participate.

From the Inbox (6)

The good word about this column must really be going around. So many new readers have been sending in their images and stories. The first quarter of 2009 is not yet over but our inbox has already received more e-mails than in the past year’s first six months. Thank you everyone.

Concert for Franz

We start today’s feature with an important appeal from Rachel Pantaleon, mother of Franz, a teen photographer who has twice contributed to this column. Franz has been diagnosed with Extra-Skeletal Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone malignancy. With the support of RockEd and the De La Salle Santiago Zobel Alumni Association, a fund-raising rock concert (Rock for a Reason) for Franz’s treatment will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 9:00 p.m. at the Café Saguijo in Makati.

Those who e-mailed this column will be elated to know that we are back to featuring our readers and their photography.

The APC Flickers

Our column takes a break from our reader-contributors for a special feature on the Flickers Photo Society of Asia Pacific College. This school-based photo club will be holding its 1st Grand Photo Exhibit at the Asia Pacific College on March 9, 2008. The following write-up was submitted by Rolan Emil Garcia, founder and the current club president.

From the inbox 4

We continue to feature images produced by our readers. As in recent weeks, we are still prioritizing first-time contributors.

Four from the inbox

Today’s column features four readers who recently sent in their images. First on our list is Ojie Paloma, a senior accountant in a Makati firm who acquired his DSLR only seven months ago. Ojie shares that previous to his formal training, he had been using his camera only like a point-and-shoot. But after he took a basic photography class last September, photography became a part of his everyday life. Ojie says that he would really like to learn portraiture but circumstances so far have been leading him into travel/landscape photography.

Camera on steriods

More than three months after I wrote about the CHDK camera upgrade, I finally had the time to try it out for myself. How did the camera hack fare? It was like putting my Canon 710 IS point-and-shoot on steroids! I still have to familiarize myself with all the features but I like what I have seen so far.

Phone cam freeware

Readers who have the Symbian S60 operating system on their cellphones may be interested to know that there are freeware programs for enhancing their phone cams. To my knowledge, this operating system runs the Nokia N series phones. I am not sure about the other models or the OS used by other manufacturers.

Film and/or digital

Today, we are back to featuring our readers. The column presents two readers and their preferred photographic media.

THROUGH A LENS, CLEARLY

First of all, I’d like to thank the readers for keeping my inbox busy with your emails. Today’s features are all first-time senders.
