RP team invited to play in V-League
There’s another reason for Shakey’s V-League fans to get excited.
To spice up hostilities in the country’s premiere volleyball tournament, organizers said they have struck an agreement with the Philippine Volleyball Federation that will allow the national women’s team to play exhibition matches against the regular competing squads next week.
“We have agreed in principle (with the PVF),” said Moying Martelino of organizer Sports Vision. “We’ll just iron out some little details in a meeting within the week (this week).
In Martelino’s proposal letter to the PVF, the V-League has offered the RP team six play dates: November 8, 13, 20, 24, 27, and 29 – all during the quarterfinal round where six teams will see action.
Barring any problems and conflicts of schedule, the RP team will go up against league-leading University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, San Sebastian College, Adamson University, Ateneo, and either College of St. Benilde or Lyceum.
Should plans push through, it will be a huge help for the competing teams to raise their level of competitiveness.
The V-League suffered a major blow this season after the PVF allegedly refrained the national players from playing as guest spikers in the league to focus on their preparation for the Laos Southeast Asian Games in December.
