CHR.opposes LTO project
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has stressed that it opposes the radio frequency information device (RFID) project of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), saying that the program violates human rights.
CHR Chairperson Leila de Lima said that while the CHR supports the LTO campaign of the LTO-RFID to rid the country of illegal vehicles and out of line vehicles, the project will violate one’s privacy.
“The right to privacy covers a much broader scope than simply the privacy of communications. All government intrusions or arbitrary interference into the private affairs of persons must be sanctioned by law,” De Lima said.
She said if the LTO will pursue the program, the government should make it sure that “right to privacy’’ of an individual will not be affected.
