Butler vs Foxx in new hit action thriller

An unlikely combination of two versatile actors turned out to be a smash hit when “300” star Gerald Butler and Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx attracted moviegoers beyond expectations with the interesting action drama “Law Abiding Citizen.”
With its strong plot and fine chemistry between the two supposedly un-bankable actors, the movie grossed to an estimated $21.3 million from 2,890 theaters abroad, earning a $7,353 average and easily hitting the second spot in the box-office race for what became the biggest October Weekend in cinema history.
Butler is “law abiding citizen” Clyde Sheldon whose family is killed by burglars, a tragedy to transform him into a murderer on the rampage. Catch is, he is not a fugitive, but someone orchestrating the killings of people connected to his case while inside the jail. Prosecutor Nick Rice (Foxx) has every reason to be alarmed since the light punishment he threw on the suspect caused Sheldon’s grudge against the justice system.
The film is distributor Overture’s biggest opening ever as it is poised to become its top grosser, too. Locally distributed by Viva International Pictures, “Law Abiding Citizen” opens nationwide on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
