Tracy Abad jams in ‘Style 101’

A fresh face who is no stranger to television, modeling and now radio, Tracy Abad is a certified fashion lover. This former UAAP courtside reporter and “Basketball TV” host now taps her modeling roots which launched her career in an all new radio program which is sure to tickle the fancy of those who have a passion for fashion.
“I really wanted to showcase the appeal of Filipino fashion,” says Tracy who is now a DJ for Jam 88.3. “Our local designers are very creative and have so much talent that appeals to a culture of beauty and wellness.”
Tracy Abad is the newest addition to Jam 88.3’s morning roster. Alongside DJs Lambert Cruz and Mike Libot, she can be heard weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m.
“When people think of fashion, the media that first come to mind are print and television…but we’re putting a spin on things. Radio is a powerful venue to feature what’s happening in the local fashion scene. We’ve got a captive audience and we can inform them of what the hottest trends are nowadays. That’s why we came up with ‘Style 101,’” adds Tracy.
“Style 101” is the first and only fashion radio program of its kind and airs on Jam every Tuesday morning at 8 o’clock. Tracy anchors the one hour show and hopes to promote a sense of pride in Philippine fashion through the innovative program which guests local designers, stylists and gives tips on how to up your style and stay abreast of what’s “hot” and what’s “not” when it comes to looking good.
“Radio and fashion make for a perfect partnership,” smiles Tracy. “Style is so dynamic and changes from season to season, week to week. ‘Style 101’ is an ideal venue to get the word out on the airwaves of what local designers are doing to shape local pop culture. And since live events and concerts are part and parcel to the radio industry, we plan to have more fashion shows lined up as part of ‘Style 101!’”
The grand launch of Tracy’s radio program happened earlier this month as hundreds of listeners and fashionistas attended. “Style 101” invited seven up-and-coming Filipino designers to showcase their collections for all to see. The invitation only soiree was also an effort to raise funds to benefit victims of typhoon Ondoy. Amidst the over flowing drinks and cocktails, celebrities like Polo Ravales danced to the sounds of UK DJs Lucio Pua and Russell Morgan on the turntables as a “whose who” of style were snapped up by the paparazzi and media men from local fashion mags and media from Channel V and ETC Vibe. Tracy, who hosted the event in a striking violet and tangerine Reian Mata mini, was supported in full force by her fellow Jam DJs and friends from the fashion industry.
As the featured designer’s collections made their rounds on the catwalk, the audience was at full attention. Cheena Ng Lio’s Amour set featured a flirty yet sophisticated look layered with lace and feminine details. Glitterati by J.L. Ladrido and Nina Estacio made bold style statements on the runway with bold designs that were inspired by ballerina tutus and glam rock. Graxie by Reian Mata showed off a versatile collection that utilized draping and a play of contrast with texture, palette, patterns and simple lines. The collection of Finina Tugade was a casual showcase of feminine fashions that highlighted transition from day-time to night-time chic. Sy-Kat Couture by Kat Sy exhibited short, form fitting ensembles in decadent hues of grape, wine and rose. A diverse collection of minis, pants dresses and gowns were the platform for designer Kat Corpus’ style collection. And lastly, Twinkle Ferraren showed off her men’s and women’s swimwear designs which boasted her signature hand-painted flair details in tropical blue, sand and coral swirls.
“Style 101” guests were also treated to perfumes from Loewe during the launch which was brought to life by HG Studio for hair and makeup and photography, Aesthetic Science for Skin Care, and Framesi European hair products. To know more about “Style 101,” log on to www.jam883.fm.
