Most of us do not know of Marcia Kilgore, but we sure do know what she pioneered.  She made a name for herself back in the ‘90s by establishing the Bliss Spa group, and set the trend for day spas. She also launched a bath and body product line named Soap & Glory in 2006, which was distinguished by its affordability and witty taglines.

Kilgore also does consultancy on the side, and it was in one of these sessions that she had another “light bulb” moment.  She toyed with the idea of “cosmetics” for your legs, so as to have a tight bun and sexy gams. Working closely with a London university’s biomechanics department, she launched what we now know as the FitFlop in May 2007.  Barely two years, FitFlop has successfully sold over four million pairs in 30 countries, including the Philippines.

I’ve tried on a pair, and it’s as light and as comfy as any pair of flip flops I’ve worn. The concept behind it takes from the bio-evolutionary idea that our feet are meant to walk on earth (on soil), so we shouldn’t subject our feet to hard floors and uncomfortable shoes.  FitFlop contours to the soles of our feet, along with a shock-absorbing heel strike to relieve pressure from our ankle, knees and pelvis joints. An unanticipated effect of such contouring is that it helped cure a lot of ailments such as lower back problems and injury related to joints.

The benefits appear to be plenty. In fact, Kilgore recalls that the very first feedback about FitFlop she got had nothing to do with getting toned legs. Wearing them gave a female customer a boost of self-confidence, and she can now make eye contact with the people around her, Kilgore relates.

Another customer said he no longer needed to take morphine for his car-accident injuries while another said she got her balance back. Not only does FitFlop help stimulate your whole system, it improves blood circulation, too. “There is no better way to treat your feet,” says Kilgore. So, do try on a pair and find out what it can do for you.

FitFlop is available at Res|Toe|Run and Rockwell Powerplant mall.
