Through a Lens, Clearly
Reader’s Tribute to Cory

The images submitted by half a dozen readers taken during the wake and funeral march of our beloved President Cory Aquino take center stage in our column today. We start the list with the first-time contributors.
Giovanni G. Navata, M.D. was in the Intramuros area on August 5 and took some street photos. Vans writes that he started shooting in 2004 with a point-and-shoot. However, since 2007, he has been using a DSLR. He shares that he is still a beginner who finds a lot of fun in photography and he never thought that photography would become his serious hobby”. He says that he usually shoots with his friend from high school. When he’s not clicking the shutter, Vans is a general practitioner at Fatima University and Mary Chiles General Hospital under Internal Medicine and is also the school physician at PSBA Manila.
Joey M. Fradejas took photos during the transfer of Tita Cory’s remains from La Salle Greenhills and again during the funeral march. Joey shares that after undergoing the FPPF photo workshop last year and subsequently joining the Aurora Light Shooters Photography Club, he has become a hobbyist. In the image “Paalam Tita Cory,” Joey captured an old man who was busy writing his message while waiting for the procession to arrive. Readers can see more of Joey’s photos at http://jmfradejas.eyefetch.com, http://jmfradejas.multiply.com and at his Facebook account.
Also sharing their images this week for the first time are Romyr Mariano, Miguel “Skylab” Tuprio, and Eusebio Yu who has been shooting for over a decade now.
Our sixth contributor is regular reader Chris Linag who says that he is “honored to have photo-documented this momentous event.” He took photos both on Times St. and at the Manila Cathedral.
From Bataraza, the southernmost town of Palawan, Chemical Engineer Oliver N. Delmendo writes: “I am a photography enthusiast who doesn’t own a camera. All shots were taken with a digicam borrowed from a good friend.”
Maria Lenavi “V” Barrion-Ramos, media and marketing operations manager at Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. shares a photo (Three is a Crowd!) that won 5th place during her FPPF graduation last June 2009. “I am interested in still life,” she writes, “but what I really want is to capture the innate beauty of people close to me, frame it and give it to them as a gift. For that moment, I am a part of their life and forever I will be remembered.” She also believes that “photography promotes work-life balance.”
Solomon Lim rounds up our contributors for today. This graduating student in Information and Communications Technology from De La Salle – Manila says: “I’ve been shooting as a hobby since I was in third year high school (2005), but it was only during my college days (2007) that I became serious in that field. I got my DSLR in mid-2008 and photography has become my lifestyle ever since.” Interested readers may see more of Solomon’s work at http://splgum.deviantart.com/ and http://splgum.multiply.com/.
