The Batangas Bulls completed their dominating season with a 12-2 rout of the Manila Sharks Saturday for a sweep of the Baseball Philippines Series 5 Finals at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Behind Finals Most Valuable Player and Best Pitcher Vladimir Eguia, the Bulls easily dismantled the Sharks, whom they beat, 13-4, in Game 1.

Forced to pitch the whole game because of an early injury to Romeo Jasmin, the lefty Eguia held the Sharks to just five hits even as the Bulls offense scattered 16 hits to clinch their second title. The 20-year- old Eguia also struck out six Manila batters in just three pitches.

Jasmin pulled his left hamstring early in the first inning while trying to get on first base.

“Vladi stepped up despite the absence of Jasmin and almost everyone came through for us,” Bulls team manager Randy Dizer said.

Dizer was later named as the Best Manager after compiling a 13-1 record despite the absence of suspended national team players Vio Roxas and Junifer Pinero, among others midway through the tournament.

Batangas took a 4-0 lead early in the second frame as Michael de Rossi brought home Ericson Eguia and Justin Zialcita on a two-run double to left field before Jose Jose, likewise, scored both Randy de Leon and De Rossi on a single to left.

Despite leaving the game early, Jasmin was still adjudged as Series 5 MVP after posting a batting average of .233 of seven hits in 30 at-bats and three RBIs (runs-batted-in) and was a vital addition to the Bulls after being acquired from the Alabang Tigers.

“When we got him, it really solidified our pitching rotation, especially during the crucial parts of the tournament,” said Dizer of Jasmin, a former UAAP MVP and Best Pitcher winner for the Adamson Falcons.
