How to grunge

Gothic grunge has been making quite a comeback, and there are so many reasons why it’s doing the rounds in the mainstream fashion scene. For one, Balmain’s slashed designs and boxy jackets are a fave among A-list celebrities. A major influence is the ‘80s era, where gothic grunge had its not-so-quiet beginnings. And American Idol’s Adam Lambert’s rockin’ look sealed the deal.
No wonder young fashionphiles have quickly assimilated the trend into their everyday wear and lifestyle. A local fashion retail brand for students, Bum shows off its latest, affordable Back-to-School collection of urban wear to quench their thirst for some emo-grunge style.
And how do you stay on the gothic grunge radar? Color schemes will always be a mix of black, gray, red and white; with prints such as plaid and stripes for added texture. Accessorize with lots of leather straps and metal chains for an edgy look. As for makeup, black/gray eyeshadows and liners will do the trick. Oh, and don’t forget your black nail polish.
It’s quite easy if you remember these tips. Here’s a visual guide, courtesy of Bum.
